Helicopter Immersion Suit

In November 2007, a new immersion suit was introduced for Cougar offshore flights. The E-452 Survival / Marine Abandonment suit, manufactured by Helly Hansen, has an integrated life vest. This suit is also equipped with a personal locator beacon (PLB). The PLB does not require the passenger to activate the device. The device is armed by suit issuance personnel when it is issued to the passenger. In the event of a water landing, the PLB will activate automatically.

The survival suits undergo certification for flight prior to being used for offshore flights, and are approved by Transport Canada. Each suit also undergoes a regular maintenance program which involves cleaning and a detailed inspection for damage. Upon check-in at the heliport, passengers will be issued a suit that they will retain in their cabin offshore for return travel. Correct donning and use of survival suits is reiterated in the briefing video viewed before flight departure. There are sufficient sizes to accommodate almost all body types. If prior to departure a passenger has any concern about the suit issued, it should be brought to the attention of suit issuance personnel or the flight check-in agent.
